Frequently Asked Questions

About Homeopathy

  • What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that is based on the principle “like cures like”. In other words, a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can be used in very small amounts to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathy considers the person as a whole by considering physical, mental, emotional aspects and seeks to stimulate the body’s natural healing process.

  • How does Homeopathy work?

Homeopathy works on an energetic level to stimulate your body’s vital force to restore homeostasis, allowing your body to heal itself naturally. Homeopathic remedies are highly individualized and are selected based on the person’s unique symptoms and overall health profile.

  • What does it mean when you say homeopathy treats the whole person?

Homeopathy is a true holistic medicine. With every patient their full case from birth to current day is take. A homeopath wants to know how the patient sleeps, what happens during sleep, sweat patterns, how they respond to stress, what their digestion is like, what their appetite is like, food cravings, if there are any skin issues, how their body responds to colds or flus, how they present themselves in the world, what emotions they feel most often, if there are any chronic or recurrent illnesses, any uncommon symptoms, any chronic pain, and family history etc. Homeopaths believe that everything is tied together and when looked at and treated as a whole, the correct homeopathic medicine can be found to treat the whole picture.

  • What is the difference between allopathic (modern) medicine and homeopathic medicine?

In modern medicine disease is simply a diagnosis with the main focus being on the removal of symptoms. Modern medicine is based on the law of opposites with its focus on suppressive treatment. Think ANTI-histamines, ANTI-nausea, ANTI-depressant, ANTI-anxiety, ANTI-epileptic, ANTI-biotics, ANTI-inflammatory. Not one of these treatments addresses the root cause of WHY. WHY are there allergies in the first place. WHY am I nauseous. WHY am I inflamed. WHY do I have arthritis.

The allopathic approach is often temporary and full of side effects. Why? Because disease is never local – disease affects the whole body. In homeopathy we do not consider disease as local. We consider disease to be a general manifestation. What is epilepsy? It’s an electrical short circuit in the brain which causes the immune system to overreact. What is asthma? It’s an allergic reaction from an overreaction of the immune system. What is inflammation? An overactive immune system. What is cancer? An uncontrolled growth of a cell due to a faulty immune system. What is rheumatic fever? Inflammation in which the immune system attacks the joints and heart of the body.

So where is the REAL problem? The IMMUNE SYSTEM. The greater problem? The immune system is connected to every single system in our body, from our mind to our central nervous systems to our endocrine glands. So how can we possibly only treat one local area to heal disease?

Homeopathic treatment is based on holism and individualization. Holism because it considers all mental, emotional, and physical symptoms, and individualization because it considers everyone as unique. Homeopathy is also based on the law of similars (like treats like) in which we find the correct medicine that matches the full symptom picture of the patient to stimulate the body to heal itself.

  • What can Homeopathy help with?

A homeopath does not need a medical diagnosis to help you. Each person is treated as an individual and no matter what your condition, homeopathy can help. Some examples are:

    • Mental and Emotional distress
    • Neurological disease including Headache and Autism
    • Hormonal issues
    • Urinary complaints
    • Pregnancy and Childbirth issues
    • Acute complaints including injury, colds, flus & childhood illnesses.
    • Digestive complaints
    • Asthma and Respiratory disease
    • Arthritic conditions
    • Skin conditions
    • Sleeping problems
    • Autoimmune disease including chronic fatigue syndrome
    • MS
    • Parkinson’s disease.

    The list is endless.

Homeopathic Treatment & Remedies

  • What is a homeopathic remedy?

A homeopathic remedy is an all-natural system of therapeutics. It is a stimulus for the body that causes a healing response. Homeopathic remedies are completely safe, there are no side effects, remedies are non-addictive and are safe for all ages.

  • What is a homeopathic remedy made from?

Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances sourced predominantly from plant, animal, fungi and mineral sources. They are prepared according to international standards of homeopathic pharmacopeia. They are different from vitamin and mineral supplements or herbal preparations. Homeopathic remedies are potentized through a series of succussions and dilutions and these micro-doses act in a gentle and permanent way to restore health.

  • How do I take a Homeopathic Remedy?

Dry pellets can be placed under the tongue and left to dissolve. The mouth should be free of mints, food, gum, strong flavours. Take them at least 20 minutes before or after food and drinks. Pellets can also be placed in a cup of water to dissolve if dosing for a baby or a small child. One dose is a teaspoon of liquid. Give the water a stir before taking a dose.

  • How many pellets do I take?

Most homeopaths will tell you that it really doesn’t matter. If the symptom picture of the remedy strongly matches the person’s symptoms, any number of pellets will do the job. A typical dose is 2 pellets.

  • How often do I repeat the remedy?

If the remedy worked the universal rule is that as long as improvement continues, there is no need to repeat the remedy. When improvement stalls and the symptom picture has not changed, you can give another dose. If a remedy helps, but seems to wear off quickly, repeat the remedy. You can repeat the remedy every 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes as the intensity of the symptoms require. Always stop with improvement.

What Happens if the Remedy does not work

If there have been no changes in the symptoms after 3-4 doses of a remedy it probably wasn’t the correct remedy. Consider another remedy based on the symptom picture.
