Tissue Salt #11 - Sodium Sulphate

Sodium Sulphate or Nat Sulph is a water eliminator and a deficiency of Nat Sulph will lead to an excess of water. Nat Phos which we discussed earlier, is a water distributor and these two tissue salts work well together. Nat Sulph is extremely effective in treating malarial fever as it helps remove the excess water from the blood which is where the malaria bacteria breeds.

Some deficiency symptoms of Nat Sulph are swollen hands and feet, itching skin, skin that has a greenish tinge, depression, suicidal feelings and bad gas.

Some conditions that may occur with a Nat Sulph deficiency are spinal meningitis, diabetes, issues with the liver, gallbladder, intestines, and bowels, photophobia, asthma (especially in children), yellowish discharges and epilepsy after head injury.

There are some facial signs to look for in someone with a Nat Sulph deficiency. The face will have a greenish-yellow colour to the skin, swollen under eye sacks that can extend to the borders of the cheeks, and a dark red nose (alcoholic nose). Alcoholics tend to have a significant Natrum Sulph deficiency due to liver toxicity.  The tongue could have a greenish-grey or greenish-brown coating which indicates an excess of bile. ( [1]

Things that make your symptoms feel better or worse are a good way to determine if this salt is the one for you. With a Nat Sulph deficiency, all symptoms are worse in the morning and in cold, damp wet weather, with cold food and drink and from head injuries. Symptoms are better with open air, passing gas, warmth, pressure, sitting up and after eating breakfast. A person with a Nat Sulph deficiency would not do well living in a damp, wet basement or a low, marshy area.

In an acute situation that is severe such as burning and throbbing headaches that occur with a bitter taste in the mouth, earaches, nasal congestion and gout etc., as an adult you would want to take 2-3 tablets every 15-60 minutes until the pain or symptoms subside. You can give children 1-2 tablets and infants 1 tablet. In an acute moderate situation that is more bearable, you would take 2-3 tablets every 2-3 hours until symptoms subside.

Repeat according to the severity of the symptoms. Stop on improvement. Repeat as needed.

You can also take tissue salts to treat chronic conditions. With a chronic condition such as diabetes, enlargement of the liver, asthma, malaria, etc., you would take 2-3 tablets, 2-3x per day for 5 weeks, or you can even finish the full bottle. Taking little breaks is important so the body does not develop a tolerance. In this situation, you would take the tissue salt either for 5 days on with 2 days off, or for 3 weeks on with one week off over many months.

When taking tissue salts, tip the tablets into the lid and drop them into your mouth. Avoid touching the cap to your mouth. It is also important to try to avoid food for 10-20 mins before and after taking the salts, and take away from coffee or mint products as it will not be properly absorbed.

Healing with Homeopathy. What Exactly is a Symptom?

A symptom is observable or felt changes in the physical, emotional, or mental condition of a person that limits their optimal health. Homeopaths believe that symptoms represent the efforts of the organism to deal with an internal or external stress. Symptoms do not exist in isolation but are a reflection of how the whole person is coping with that stress.

Understanding Homeopathy

Homeopathy, the medicine of energy, is a medical system based on the belief that the body can cure itself by strengthening its own defense mechanisms by using substances selected for their energy-giving properties. Homeopaths use tiny amounts of natural substances, like plants, herbs, minerals, chemicals, disease products or allopathic drugs which are potentized.
